POSTAL RECRUITMENT & TRAINING CENTRE - KARACHI

Postal Training Centre Karachi was created by the then Director General, Post & Telegraph in 1953 under his memo No. A.9-39153 dated 26.11.1953 under the Colombo Plan.

BRIEF HISTORY

The aim for creating this Centre was to impart training to all categories of Postal Employees in order to enhance the efficiency of the department by training the officials in its various aspects. The regular classes for various categories of staff were started here from 16.12.1953.

Until 30th June-2002 Postal Training Centre was under the administrative and financial control of the Postmaster General Sindh. It was under the control of Director Postal Staff College for training purpose. On Ist July-2002 it was placed under the administrative and financial control of the Director Postal Staff College Islamabad. Postmaster General Sindh was then responsible only for its repair and maintenance. Presently, like other PRTCs, this center is also working under the control of Dy. Director General (PDI), Dte-General, Pakistan Post. 
 

In 2003 all the 5  Postal Training Centers were renamed as Postal Recruitment and Training Centers with additional responsibility to complete all the necessary formalities of recruitment of postal staff from Basic Pay scale 1 to 15.   
This Postal Recruitment and Training Centre spreads over a large area and consists of the Training Wing, the Hostel Wing consisting of 10 furnished rooms where trainees coming from outside Karachi reside, and the administrative block. Mess facilities are also available. Besides this recreation facilities like Color TV & Games are also provided.

Postal Officers of B-17 qualifying for Postal Service through the Central Superior Services Examination, departmental officers B-16 and Foreign Postal Officers from the Middle East, Africa and from Eastern Countries were also trained In Postal Training Centre Up till -1984.

Postal Training Centre from 1984 started training only the officials (B1-B11) of Sindh & Baluchistan. The training consists of departmental rules and regulations and other new activities in which Pakistan Post Office is participating. The officials under the training in PTC Karachi besides attending theory classes are also taken to different Post Offices, District Mail Offices and the office of Foreign Post and Express Post where they see the practical working. The demonstration Post Office in Postal Training Centre also helps to acquaint them with Postal work as it represents a complete Post Office with all Its necessary equipments and stationery.

 

 
 


From Ist July-2002 the training programme of Postal Training Centre has been modified by the Directorate General and training has been linked with promotion for B-1 to B-16 officials. Refresher courses are also to he conducted for B-7, B-9 & B-11 for which guest invited speakers may be invited.

 The building of the Postal Training Centre Karachi has been renovated and now gives a completely changed look. It is a new and modern institution equipped with all the training facilities including a Library and a Computer Room.
